The "original" house was an old schoolhouse that had been moved to the site in the 1920s. An addition was made to each side and the back, but it was never really integrated. The result was an out-of-scale interior with a poorly organized entry and many tiny dark bedrooms. A large, sophisticated kitchen and connecting porch addition to the rear and a new entry, driveway, and exterior porch to the front solved the scale and proportion issues. Interior finishes were vastly upgraded, while daylight was evenly spread throughout the house to make this 'once upon a boarding house' look elegant and stately.
